Reflection Every day at the beginning of class Mrs. Knudson asks us to write about a prompt that she gives us called our "In Class Writing." I have really enjoyed the prompts because I think it has helped improve my writing. I can see from the beginning of the semester to the end that there has been a huge improvement. In the beginning of the semester I didn't write a lot and all of my sentences were choppy but by the end I have been able to develop my sentences and think of better ways to convey my thoughts and ideas.

In Class WritingSeptember 3, 2014
I want my website to be a reflection of me and my writing. I want it to be something that is appealing to the reader so that they aren't bored when they read it. I don't want my readers dreading reading my website so I want to throw in cool pictures and make it look cool with colors and fonts. I want my website to show my development of my writing and show that I am not just writing but I am getting better at it too. September 15, 2014 My first paper was fine. I didn't like writing it. I actually hated it. I wish I had added more details to it but I couldn't think. I think next time as a class we need to work on elaborating because I don't know how. As an individual I should have written a better rough draft, given myself more time and actually taken the rough draft seriously. October 1, 2014 I found it interesting that in Bazerman's essay he talks about how much of an impact words can make on people's opinions. Even if they are uninformed about it, they will make opinions based off of what they hear from other people instead of doing the research on their own. This makes me think of politics and how kids make their decisions based on what they hear from their parents not from actually doing their own research. October 15, 2014 I find this passage interesting because she says that we never know when we are writing if the writing will actually impact anyone but the best kind of writing is when we are unknowing of the outcome. If we just write knowing that we aren't sure of the outcome of our work then we will end up with a lot of writing and they are bound to be good pieces of writing that someone can take from. We just need to write to write not with a purpose and one day it will help others to read and draw from the piece. October 22, 2014 Picture day went well! I really enjoyed this assignment and thought it was a cool idea. This allowed me to be involved with class without physically being in class. It shows how amazing technology is and how it is changing how we learn. If I were to put music with my writing I would put the song "Unwritten" by Natasha Bedingfield for my picture with the construction because it is all about how my writing is still in the works and it's still growing and her song is about living through experiences to have something to write about. I feel like her life is still under construction just like my writing. October 27, 2014 To do my homework I usually pull everything out that I am going to need. If it is a reading assignment I will first read the title and then skim the piece of work I have to read. This gives me a feel of what the reading is about and how long it is. I cannot read something if I don't know how long it is because I am a goal oriented person. Being a goal oriented person I have to set goals for myself in order to succeed. After I read a paragraph I write annotated notes of what happened so when I go back to find textual evidence I know where to look instead of having to hunt through the book. In order to retain the information I have to be in a dead silent room because it takes a lot of focus for me to read and comprehend what I am reading. November 3, 2014 I revise by first writing everything out and then going back and rereading what I have written after I am completely done writing. Before I fix my sentences, I change all the things that are red underlined(usually they are misspelled words) and then I go back through and fix things that don't make sense. For example I have to pay close attention to the order of my sentences. because I write out of order. After that I go through and read it out loud to make sure it flows. Sometimes I find myself typing faster than I can think and that usually leads to left out words. My last step is to give it to someone else to go through and edit. This gives me another perspective on my writing and I can see what they think needs to be changed. I'll take their ideas into consideration and edit it accordingly to improve my paper but not lose my voice. |
